It was a grinding run, so lets skip the details and digress for a day. It was suggested to me that I encourage donations in memory or appreciation of loved ones and in turn dedicate a run to that special person. Well, I like the idea of remembering people who have impacted our lives in special ways. We all have many. I thought long and hard about it last night.
So I am making a donation and dedicating tomorrow's run to our United States of America Veterans of the Armed Services. First and foremost to Sergeant Earnest Duval, a paratrooper in the Army's 101st Airborne Division, my dad. He lost his sight in Korea during a mission in February, 1951. He lost his wife, Jacqueline Ann, a few years later to cancer. Somewhere in between, the house burned down. I was quite small at the time, but from what I know other veterans, neighbors, friends and family always rallied around him. They even built us a new house! Through my dad and his life, I learned you have to keep trying when things get tough. But more importantly, you do not have to do it alone. Lorraine's Soup Kitchen is helping people every, every day. It is a honor to help them do their good work.
